I've personally had great success using the integrated pest management to control Varroa. While I'm not crazy about sacrificing drones, I have found that it's a small price to pay for zero chemicals and the overall strength of the colony.

By using more and more treatments on bees, we are continually lowering the colony's immune system. Varroa and bees should be allowed to evolve together which will allow bees to adapt to varroa and build resistance to viruses, but continuously dumping chemicals in the hives and feeding antibiotics to bees only prolongs problems and hastens the inevitable decline of bees.
