They obviously don't expect a thank you from the whales - they are doing good and then using it for promotion. If you look at their history and recent press releases, you'll see they invest heavily in safety and you won't find where they've dropped any oil. That doesn't make for a very interesting ad though - "look at us, we didn't drop oil in your water". So they do ads that promote good things that people can relate to.You certainly can have your ideals, but your efforts here are misdirected. Not all oil companies are the same - no more than all bloggers are. They aren’t children – they are a business. They obviously don’t expect a thank you from the whales – they are doing good and then using it for promotion. That doesn’t make for a very interesting ad though – “look at us, we didn’t drop oil in your water”. So they do ads that promote good things that people can relate to.

You certainly can have your ideals, but your efforts here are misdirected. Not all oil companies are the same – no more than all bloggers are.

Irving does not have to reroute ships, there no laws requiring them to do so, and it must cost them extra to do so. Show me any record of Irving spilling oil into the ocean. Anywhere. Ever. So you're anti-oil, but I bet you use it every day. How did the laptop you're typing on get to you? The shingles on your house, the asphalt on the roads, the propane in your grill may all come from Irving oil.
