Electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero Motorcycles wants you to ride your first 25,000 miles on their dime, so they are offering some cash for new customers to put towards paying their electric bill.
After calculating the average cost of electricity to power their 2012 ZF9 Zero Motorcycle S with a 114 mile range for 25,000 miles, Zero is giving new owners $200 on a Visa gift card. Autoblog Green said that “25,000 free miles certainly sounds sexier than $200 cash back” and we couldn’t agree more; I myself hear “25,000 free miles” and think “free around the world trip!”
In order to take advantage of the $200 Visa card offer, new customers must purchase a new 2012 Zero Motorcycle between May 15 and May 31, 2012 and submit the warranty card for their new bike by June 7th. In speaking with Two Wheel Mania, Vice President of Global Sales John Lloyd said that with “rising gas prices and the summer riding season just around the corner, we want riders to enjoy an exceptionally fun and carefree summer of riding on a new Zero” and that showing how far one of their bikes can go on $200 worth of electricity “highlight(s) the incredible efficiency of our entire lineup.”
The 2012 Zero S utilizes a magnet electric motor powered entirely by Lithium-Ion battery packs which can be charged up at home at any standard 110 or 220 volt outlet. Charge time to 100% varies between 1.5 hours and 6 hours, depending on what charger system is used.
The Zero S is the first mass-produced electric motorcycle to exceed 100 miles per charge in EPA tests. Capable of reaching 88 mph (no Back to the Future jokes, please) and with a lifespan of over 300,000 miles, the battery packs produce less than 1/8 of the CO2 pollution per mile from a power plant than a typical gasoline-powered motorcycle while delivering instant torque similar to that delivered by electric cars. For fans of speed, going electric definitely ups the fun quota.
