ONTILITY, a solar distribution, training, and development organization, will be offering their Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) Accredited Solar Training Course for free to unemployed U.S. Military Veterans in 20 cities across the country starting this month.
For 7 months from May until November, scholarships and grants offered by ONTILITY will cover all course costs for many Veterans with an interest in solar energy who are currently looking for employment.
While scholarships valued at either $500 or $1,000 are available to anyone with a financial need who is interested in starting a career in the industry, Veterans will be able to attend the courses free of charge. The cost to attend the 5 day/40 hour Solar PV Installer Training Class is regularly $1595 and is the first step towards passing the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Installer Certification Exam.
“Our Solar Training Scholarships for unemployed US Military Veterans will help veterans returning from overseas duty receive the job skills needed to join the solar industry,” said Stephen Shelton, ONTILITY Senior Vice President and Director of Training in a statement.
The first 5 sessions will be held in Missouri, Louisiana, Arizona, Washington, and Toronto. Class attendees will learn about solar installation, system design, project management, and sales. A recent survey of solar employers predicts growth in the solar industry to accelerate 24% and create 24,000 jobs over the next year, so the availability of these scholarships couldn’t come at a better time.
